Bahçeşehir University’s vision is a decidedly global and intercultural one. Our university was founded on the premise that higher education should rest on a solid foundation of intercultural dialogue between students and faculty from around the globe. Since its founding in 1998, the university has established several academic centers in Europe, the United States, and in the Far-East, and is constantly expanding the scope of its international engagement.As the first BAU Study Abroad Unit in eastern Asia, the Hong Kong Unit Branchaims to serve as a bridge between BAU and other tertiary institutions in HongKong and China. It is founded under BAU’s unique and visionary education model“World is My Campus”. In the age of globalization, exposure to a variety of culturesis a valuable asset to students. It equips them with the ability to adapt to differentintercultural settings and independent thinking, which are the essential qualities for acompetent leader.

Nurturing students capable of achieving high goals and making contributions to the communities is BAU’s proudest accomplishment. BAU has also committed itself to facilitating communication among students and scholars from different universities in the world. It believes through exchange programs, students can learn from other people and develop critical thinking by experiencing different cultures. Seeing the lifelong benefits of exchange, the Hong Kong campus offers BAU students an opportunity to study designated courses and join internship programs in the city. It also hopes to collaborate with universities and industries in China to organize workshops and visits, so as to facilitate academic and practical knowledge exchange among students as well as professionals in different sectors.

As an emerging economic power, the Republic of Turkey is eager to welcome Hong Kong and Chinese students to come for studying or working. They will be able to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the country. Therefore, BAU Hong Kong Campus would like to contribute to the Republic of Turkey by exporting education to other parts of the world. It offers students opportunities to explore its unique culture and get updated information about the latest development of the country.

The Republic of Turkey enjoys a rich historical background and cultural diversity. Its music and literature are great examples of such a mix of cultural influences, which are the results of the interaction between the Ottoman Empire and the Islamic world along with Europe, contributing to a blend of Turkic, Islamic and European traditions in modern-day Turkish music and literary arts.

Turkey’s location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia makes it a country of significant geostrategic importance. In addition to its geographical location, changes in economic climate have drawn worldwide attention to the country. Over the past two decades, Turkish industrialists and entrepreneurs have established companies and made foreign investment worldwide, fostering global economic growth. The country has developed rapidly as a major trading center and become the largest national economy in Central and Eastern Europe. The Gross Domestic Product of the Republic of Turkey amounted to $1.288 trillion in 2011, growing at a rate of 8.49% compared with that of 2010.

Apart from an economic giant in the Middle East, the Republic of Turkey’s diplomatic initiatives and economic cooperation have led to its recognition as a regional power. It is a member state of Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Economic Cooperation organization.
