It ıs recommended to have a student visa for foreigners who generally need a visa to enter Türkiye. All other types of visas or legal entrance procedures will be accepted by BAU for registration. trans http://www.mfa.gov.tr/visa-information-for-foreigners.en.mfa

* According to the resolution No. 978811785-102-02-4771 by Immigration department of MIA of Türkiye issued on 17.06.2014, a student visa is no longer required for foreign students who want to study in Türkiye. It‘s required neither for university registration nor for Residency application

BAU requires all international students at the Istanbul campuses to obtain residence permits from the Turkish government.  Under Turkish law students must apply for permits within 30 days of entering the country.  Applications for permits can take up to 90 days to be processed, or occasionally longer.  Applicants may not leave Türkiye until their application is processed and they have received their residency permit.

BAU International Office will be assisting you to complete your registration process as well as health insurance and residence permit application process.

The Residency application process is as follows:

1) Make an appointment to visit the Foreign Affairs:

Fill out online application here https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr

The earliest available appointment date will be offered by the system.  The system will ask for personal information and for information about plans for staying in Türkiye.  This may include the address that a student will live at, classes in their program of study, expected date of departure, or other information.  Before leaving the website, make a copy of the confirmation page on colored paper.  If this is not possible, write down and keep the reference number for the appointment.

Türkiye considers students to have “applied” for their residency after they have signed up for their appointment.  Students with appointments pending will be able to live and travel in the country until their appointment regardless of other deadlines, unless told otherwise.

2) Go to the Foreign Affairs for the Application Appointment

Students must go to the Foreign Affairs Police Department in person for their application appointment.  Do not fail to appear for this appointment.  The Police will not reschedule missed appointments.  Plan to arrive several minutes early.

Students must bring the following items to their appointment.

  • Passport
  • Photocopy of passport ID page, and of any pages with entry stamps.
  • Printout of the confirmation page on colored paper.  Students without this can tell the police clerk their confirmation number, but will have to pay an additional fee and visit an additional office.
  • Letter from BAU confirming enrollment
  • Health insurance ***
  • 4 passport-sized photographs

At the end of the appointment students will be given a receipt.  If there are any problems at this appointment, contact the BAU International Student Office.
