A tourist visa is not acceptable for registration. Students who live in Turkey should provide the photocopies of their Student Residence Permit. Students who have a “Blue Card” do not need to submit student visa or residence permit.

3. Residence Permit Part:
A Residence Permit is an official document for foreign Nationalities staying in Turkey more than 30 days stating the registration with the Directorate of Security (Emniyet Müdürlüğü).
All International students, regardless of their status, are required to apply for Residence Permit within 30 days from their arrival date and stay in Turkey until it has been recieved (this might take up to 3 months).
There are 3 steps of getting Residence permit:
1) Online application for Residence Permit through E-Appointment system:
Go to https://e-randevu.iem.gov.tr/yabancilar/dil_sec.aspx
The System offers you available date and time for appointmen. Choose the earliest available one. Personal information and information concerning your arrival and staying in Turkey will be required to complete application. Once online application is completed student must save (save the reference number) or print out colourful application form for appointment.
The date of appointment arranged through the E-Appointment system is considered as the application date; and the person will be considered to have applied even when visa period or residence permit period terminates before the appointment date.
2) Application Appointment at Foreign Affairs Police Department (Emniyet Müdürlüğü):
Students must be present at the scheduled date and time with the following documents:
a. Passport
b. Application form
c. Enrollment confirmation from the University
d. Copy of passport
e. 4 photographs
f. Application Fee (about 160 TL)
Once your application is accepted by the police officer you are given the confirmatory receipt.
3) Receiving the Residence permit:
Student must be present at the time of picking it up. You must have the confirmatory receipt with you to get your Residence Permit.
Residence Permit is valid for period of study in Turkey and can be extended if necessary.
Students with a valid Residence Permit can leave and come back to Turkey as often as they want without a visa renewal or any other additional registration or charges.
Important Notes:
- Student visa is obligatory to apply for Residence Permit and does not give the right to stay in Turkey longer than 30 days although it’s valid for a year. International students without valid student visa, Residence Permit or “Blue Card” will not be registered at the University.
- According to the consulate’s regulations a Student Visa is issued for a period of study as stated in the Acceptance Letter from the host university (but this is only for a single entry). This means that if a student leaves Turkey before receiving the Residence Permit then their Student Visa becomes invalid for the next entry (even if it is not expired).
- Online application made later than 30 days after arrival is not acceptable. In this case the student’s immigration status becomes illegal. The student must then leave Turkey and pay an immigration fine on departure.
- Appointments cannot be rescheduled if it has been missed for any reasons.
