Supermarkets and Grocery Stores
İstanbul has many grocery stores from tiny corner markets (which are called bakkal) to supermarkets. Migros, Tansaş and Macrocenter are the most common supermarket chains around Istanbul. There are some local farmers’ markets which are set up once a week and are very popular as they sell clothes, fresh fruits and vegetables at very low prices. On Saturdays they are set up in Beşiktaş, on Tuesdays and Fridays in Kadıköy and on Thursdays in Levent.
